Something is Happening in 29 Palms - Catch the Spirit!
Our mission is to revive the pioneer “can do” spirit
and instill community pride.
Action 29 Palms has completed 25 murals that reflect the community's rich history and its love of nature. Each has been completed or supervised by a renowned muralist. Even our community outreach program, "Mural-In-A-Day (or a weekend)," which relies on the participation of local amateur artists, is conducted under the guidance of a prominent muralist.
Our mural program has been so successful that it inspired the community of Twentynine Palms to formally adopt the name, Oasis of Murals.
We are funded solely through donations, sponsorships, and the sale of mural merchandise. Every dollar we receive goes directly to the creation, maintenance, and repair of our murals or to fund community programs such as our annual Chalkfest, which provides opportunities for children and adults to participate in art projects.
Media coverage in the New York Times, the Miami Herald, the Denver Post, Huell Howser's California Gold and Peter Jennings' World Wide News has spurred tourism in Twentynine Palms, encouraged a revitalization of the downtown area, and raised international interest in Joshua Tree National Park, adjacent to Twentynine Palms.
Our work has received awards from Twentynine Palms, San Bernardino County, and the State of California. Our commitment to excellence was recognized by the international community in 2000, when Twentynine Palms was chosen to host the 2000 Global Mural Conference.
We are proud that Action 29 Palms has been able to add to the social, cultural, and economic wellbeing of the community while preserving the integrity of our environment and heritage.
